The Torah forbids Jews from eating milk and meat together, but so much cheese is literally made from a mixture of meat and milk. How can cheese ever be kosher? Why might non-Jewish cheese be prohibited regardless of the ingredients? We'll explore this issue through the Talmud and Rishonim to see whether Jews can even eat cheese at all.

Over the course of Limmud we will investigate a passage of Mishnah, with some Gemara, that explores Jewish attitudes to using parts of non-Jewish culture to regulate Jewish existence - in our case, the use of the reigns of non-Jewish kings to date Jewish documents. How do we negotiate living in two cultures at once?

Over the course of Limmud we will explore a page of Talmud with deep contemporary resonance. The Torah designates the death penalty for blasphemy but should that apply equally to Jews and non-Jews? A Talmudic case study in co-existence - how should other people relate to what we hold sacred?
