And here's to me, Jonathan Robinson!

Jonathan Robinson

Red 2

Chairing Limmud Festival once is an undertaking, let alone three times! Join me in this session as I drown my anxieties in the one, unshakeable source of comfort I have in life: my whisky collection. I will bring along several fine Scotch single malts. All participants can also contribute their own, BYOB-style. And we'll cheer to being back together!

Musical piyut workshop from Moroccan and North African traditions

Shir Malka Ifrah

Blue 34

The workshop will mainly include musical content and practical study of the Sephardi and Moroccan piyut (Jewish liturgical poem) tradition. We will also talk about its meaning and its different melodies. We will learn the textual layer of two piyutim and above all we will learn how to sing them. It's addictive!

Purim, prostitutes and talmudic toilet humour

Limmud Social Programming

Red 8

Come and delve into the seedy underbelly of Jewish text. Give a short d'var Torah (word of Torah) on an unseen text -which could be on anything from drunk rabbis to toilet demons. The catch: you have to take a shot first. Non-drinkers, we'll make sure to disorient you in an alcohol-free manner like blindfolding you and spinning you around.

Regret – learning through hasidic tales

Yehoshua Engelman

Orange 11

Better to have sinned and lost than never to have sinned at all. This was a teaching of one of the greatest masters, for we always regret things that we did not do more than mistakes we made. Are you guided by the fear of regret? Should fear of sin and error guide our lives? Psychoanalyses concurs with a profound Jewish understanding of Adam's sin.

Synagogue and state in Israel, 2022 edition

Elliot Glassenberg

Red 5

What is the current status of the synagogue and state relationship in Israel? How are decades of status quo now being changed for the first time? And why should it matter to Diaspora Jews? Together we will dive into the latest developments, including marriage, conversion, kashrut, Shabbat and public transit in Israel.

The city that never sleeps and the activists who wish they slept more

Jess Bricker

Blue 33

What do Tel Avivians do after they've drunk their overpriced coffee and taken their dog for a walk? In this session we'll discuss Tel Aviv, activism and all things in between.

They tried to kill us, we won, let's eat! Jewish food conquers antisemitism

Joel Haber

Orange 12

Food expresses culture, both good and bad. But every pot has a silver lining! Uplifting rather than depressing, this session highlights how our food shows our triumph over those who hate us, surviving and thriving even while our enemies disappeared. We've conquered adversity and drawn delicious dishes straight from the crucible of antisemitism.

The year in scandal

Ben Crowne

Orange 14

Where even to begin with 2022? From the House of Lords to the dregs of Twitter, from the front page of The Times to the back pages of Private Eye, every week seemed to bring fresh disgrace on the Jewish people. Join us to remember what we hope everyone else will forget...
