'Prayerbook Hebrew the easy way'

Ruti Roche

Orange 10

I bought this super-clear book at Limmud. My two adult students and I really enjoy studying it. One pupil describes her growing understanding as 'little pearls that shine'. This discussion session, suitable for students and teachers, will show how to go from just about reading Hebrew to develop some understanding of grammar, prayers and texts.

If you're going to be early, be very early: premature birth in Judaism

Rebecca Posner

Red 8

Premature birth is one of the leading causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, and there are many cultural superstitions associated with it. The Talmud discusses how a seven-month birth is more likely to survive than an eight-month birth, but where does this idea originate from and why?

My poor, your poor: what is our obligation outside of the Jewish community

Nechama Goldman Barash

Red 4

The 'pushka' or tzedaka (charity) box is a fixture in the Jewish home. Often we raise funds for Jewish causes. Do we have a religious obligation to support the destitute outside of our community? This session will explore texts that reinforce the imperative to give support to the 'stranger' and help us be more thoughtful of how we allocate resources.

The Tkhines Project: creating poetry and prayer rituals in response to trauma

Sonti R Ramirez

Red 3

Drawing on the Yiddish women's tradition of Tkhines, this session will teach you how to craft your own heartfelt prayers, rituals and expressions of hope in response to the recent horrors afflicted on Jewish communities. This is a safe, supportive space of expression. Self Care Tkhines is a project powered By Limmud.
