Turkey was once a non-kosher bird, but in time, rabbis developed intriguing arguments to overturn tradition and permit. In this text-based session, we’ll dive into the specifics of what makes a bird kosher, while also zooming out to a meta-Halakhic question: what strategies have Orthodox rabbinic figures proposed for overriding tradition?

Tying Tradition and Support: Tzitzit for Soldiers

In this hands-on tzitzit-making activity, participants will learn the steps to tie tzitzit and create their own set, which will be sent to IDF soldiers in Israel. Along the way, they’ll explore the mitzvah’s significance and gain insight into the role of tzitzit within the IDF and Jewish tradition.

Is a 'ger' a stranger, a traveller, an alien or a convert? We will look at the various Biblical occurences of the term and try to work out what was meant by a 'ger', how we should treat one, and how halachah, ethics and politics collide if we try and apply what we learn to Israel today. Are Palestinians Gerim? Answers not guaranteed, only questions.
