Much-respected Zionist leader when Budapest Jews were being rounded up for deportation to Auschwitz or being shot, saved thousands of lives including 5,500 orphans; supported the ghetto, hospitals and old age homes. He refused the opportunity to escape, was murdered in January 1945. He is commemorated in the Jerusalem Forest of the Martyrs.
