BRCA rabbi - genetic cancer, raising children and living life

Oliver is a BRCA carrier, his grandmother, mother and sister passed away from cancer. He had Hodgkins Disease, not a genetic cancer aged 17 years. After his little sister passed at 29 years, Oliver began advocating on BRCA. Oliver is a dad to 3 children who were born by IVF-PGD, successfully freeing them from the faulty BRCA gene.

Techiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead) sounds dramatic, mysterious and even a little spooky. When we talk about Techiyat hameitim are we describing a version of life after death, a zombie apocalypse or something else entirely? We’ll explore different understandings of resurrection, and consider why this idea is so central to Jewish liturgy and theology.

Harry Silman, a medical officer in the army, was captured by the Japanese when Singapore fell in 1942. His daughter's talk is based on his secret wartime diaries which graphically recorded the deprivations of Changi camp, the harrowing experiences of the POWs on the notorious Burma railway and, despite it all, the Jewish life that flourished there.
