The central Jewish prayer is often called the 'silent devotion'. Yet, when we take a closer look, prayer is about speaking up. We will explore prayers uttered by women—from biblical Hannah to Yiddish techinot written by early modern Jewish women—to interrogate the meeting point between critique and devotion.
