Anti-Judaism and anti-Zionism in fictional representations of the Holocaust

Minh Vo

Red 3

Through literary excerpts, participants will explore how contemporary humanism is shaped by the camps. Its fundamental anti-Zionism also stems from traditional anti-Judaism, where fraternity and peace are built “at the Jew’s expense” (Daniel Sibony), even if it means fantasising both Jewish vengeance and genocide.

Theocracy in the priestly literature of the Hebrew Bible

Tzemah Yoreh

Orange 11

The theocracy of the priests of the Bible with God on top seems at times to be particularly unyielding. Just ask Nadav and Avihu. At the same time, these thinkers represent perhaps the pinnacle of ethical thinking. They avoid bloodshed scrupulously, and articulated: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. We will explore this irony and offer answers.

What books on war and being in a warzone has taught me about war and diplomacy

Toby Millis

Red 4

Sun-Tzu, Clausewitz and various op-eds in the 'Jewish News'. I have been transported through time in the literature I have read over the past few years. Though my literary time-travelling has not been to ancient China or any other historical conflict area, but rather back in time to my own past, and the geopolitics (mainly of Israel's) that follows.
