Fighting for Israel’s image – a paratrooper’s perspective

As a combat Paratrooper Officer, Tamir speaks about the moral code of conduct and the ethical dilemmas on the battlefield, whether in Gaza or the West Bank. Tamir also served as head of Public Diplomacy in the IDF Spokesperson so will provide internal insights into the PR battle aside from the physical one.

Noah Shufutinsky AKA Westside Gravy is a student of Judaic Studies at the George Washington University and a rapper/producer. In this session, he will perform a few of his songs that touch on his identity and upbringing, and discuss the inspiration for each with participants, highlighting how hip hop can be a way in expressing Jewish identity.

Kolot HaKeshet is a project that empowers LGBTI+ Jews to create more inclusive communities. We will explore some of the issues facing our communities today. You will have the chance to listen to our experiences with a focus on two topics: Including LGBTI+ Jews of Colour, Sephardim and Mizrahim and Encountering Antisemitism in LGBTI+ Spaces.

Tsidduq HaDin: reading the Jewish funeral service

Elliott is a rabbi at Alyth and was recently ordained at Leo Baeck College. His rabbinic thesis was on Tsidduq HaDin, which is the only prayer that is unique to the Jewish funeral service. We will consider its background, how it is traditionally read, and how we might read it differently by engaging with its biblical intertexts.
