Mamash balagan! A panel of experts on 18 months of Israeli political chaos

Simcha Rothman  Dahlia Scheindlin  Eylon Aslan Levy  Sara Yael Hirschhorn  Robin Moss

Room 9

The last 18 months have seen unprecedented political turmoil in Israel - three elections without decisive results and bitter wars of words between the executive, legislature and judiciary. Some have even called it a constitutional crisis. Our panel of experts will debate what happened, why, and where we might be headed in the months to come

Nothing Else-ism

Samuel Lebens

Room 11

Certain bumper stickers in Israel claim that "אין עוד מלבדו"; "there is nothing besides Him". And yet, if I crashed into the back of one of those cars, their drivers might not appreciate my claim that it's all just God. This class tries to overcome the new-age hippy cliche and uncover the real meaning of the claim that there is only God.

The Prince of Egypt: from Torah to Hollywood and the West End

Alexia Khadime  Philip LaZebnik  Jeremy Gordon

Room 10

The movie (1998!) was a hit. The West End musical opened to huge acclaim – just before 'all this'. Join the film's screenwriter and the musical's book-writer, one of the stars (Miriam) and the Hebrew consultant for a conversation about the journey from Biblical story to stage.

Buying a house in Iraq

Edwin Shuker

Room 13

Crazy but true... In 2015 Edwin Shuker visited Baghdad to search for the house where he grew up in as a child and ended the trip by buying a new one. He shares what has happened since. Unmissable.

Singalong with Dan: a virtually nice experience

Dan Patterson

Room 15

We will be singing Hebrew and English songs based on camp – come prepared to join in and sadly, not be in the room together.

Social justice and health equity

Michael Marmot

Room 14

Taking action to reduce health inequalities is a matter of social justice. National policies need to address the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. Tackling the health gap will take action, based on sound evidence, across the whole of society.

Family "You be the Judge"

Joel Grishaver

Room 16

This session is for families with children 9 to 16 (more or less) and for adults who would like to study Jewish ethics in a multi-generational context. The facilitator will present ethical dilemmas, home groups will work on them, share answers, and then look at Jewish responses. A good time will be had by all.
