Going native: An anthropologist at Limmud

Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz

Room 4

Name badges, baked potatoes and Limmud Havdalah - why are these are all highly significant? Come and hear some preliminary results from my research project on the history and development of Limmud, and learn where you can spot rites of passage, symbolic boundaries and imagined communities at Festival!

Growing up with Israel

Chaim Klein

Room 3

Chaim will discuss aspects of his memoir 'Growing up with Israel' (Starhaven 2021). It is an account of a man and a country maturing at the same time, told from the inside without polemic or artifice. Past disaster and future hopes frame the well - and the lesser - known events that shaped both.

Should Jews get the jab?

Clive Lawton

Room 1

Some people have to avoid the jab, but what about the rest of us? What is a (the?) Jewish view? Does the need to resist tyranny give us a guide? No-one can prove this is absolutely safe. Can we take such risks? Given that it's in the job description for Jews to not join the crowd, how should we behave when everyone is urging us to get jabbed!?

Staying human: A Jewish theology for the age of artificial intelligence

Harris Bor

Room 6

Join Harris for a discussion on his new book exploring the religious implications of the idea that we are heading towards a ‘singularity,’ where AI will outsmart human beings, and humanity will coalesce into a single, ever-expanding mind for which data is everything. Spinoza, Heidegger and Jewish sources, all deployed in the task of staying human.

No equipment needed, just you and the best energy you can give.

Youth voices and empowerment in the Romanies and Traveller communities

Sherrie Smith

Room 2

A 40-minute, face-to-face, lively session for young people to learn more about Gypsies, Roma and Travellers in the UK. Connecting history with present-day issues, youth voices and visions for solidarity in the future...
