"Tell wisdom, you are my sister:" A theology of divine sisterhood

Jewish texts offer us a variety of metaphors for God, including familial relationships, which often position God as our parent or spouse. But what if we thought of God as our sibling? In this session, we will encounter texts that imagine God as our sister, and explore together what this model could mean for our own relationships with the divine.

His wide-ranging poetry is an expression of his most elevated states of consciousness and insights. Itzchak will perform a selection of poems in Hebrew and English, with musical accompaniment.

Join us for a look at the life and work of Ḥakham Yehuda Fetayya (1859-1942), one of the leading sages of Baghdad and Jerusalem in the first half of the 20th century. He was known as a Kabbalist, activist and exorcist, leaving behind both commentaries and diaries. We'll look at his work as an exorcist and consider his impact on Jewish life since.
